Tours ListingBelow the top navigation you'll see Tours, which shows all of your tours and tour stops. There are two ways of viewing these: tree view and list view. To switch between them, use the two buttons shown here.
Tree view Tree View presents the tour stops (children) nested within their parent tour. The order of tours and tour stops is set in tree view, so it's most useful for general editing or to rearrange stops via drag and drop.
How to Rearrange Stops or Tours in Tree ViewLocate the tour or tour stop you want to move somewhere else. If a tour, this is easiest if you first click Collapse All at the top right. Click and hold the drag-and-drop grab handle of the stop or tour you want to move, and drag it to the spot you want it to be, then let go. Click Save Changes at the top right (just to the left of the big blue button) to save your changes. To discard your changes, click Discard Changes (in the top middle, next to the site selector).
How to Delete Stops or Tours in Tree ViewLocate the tour or stop you want to delete. Click the three dots to the right side of the list item, then click Delete. A confirmation modal appears. Click Delete again. You may need to click Save Changes at the top right to save your changes.
List view List view, on the other hand, presents the tours and tour stops in one continuous list, which can be filtered by Site / Language, Published status, Parent Tour, or other options. List view is most helpful when dealing with hundreds to thousands of stops and/or tours, or if you need to quickly duplicate a tour.
How to Delete Stops or Tours in List ViewLocate the stop you want to delete by scrolling to it or searching for its name in the search box Click the three dots on the right side of the list item, then click Delete A confirmation modal appears. Click Delete again. You may need to click Save Changes at the top right to save your changes.
Sorting in List View Note: Sorting does not change the order of tours or tour stops. Rearranging the order only happens in Tree View. To sort on a field, hover over the table heading. Click it once to sort in ascending order. Click again to sort in descending order.Customize the columns shown in list view At the top right, click on Customize Columns button (just to the right of a small reset and save button). A modal appears. On the left side of the modal are available columns, and on the right side are currently showing columns. Check the boxes on the left side to add them those currently shown. Uncheck the boxes to hide them. To rearrange columns, click and hold the drag handle and drop it where you want it. Click Save to save your changes.
Home Page Settings Brand Icon: Enable this to show your logo or brand icon. Featured Image: Enable this to show your organization’s featured image. Organization Description: Enable this to show your organization’s description. Website Button: If you add a website link in Settings, enable this to show a button to visit your website. Directions Button: If you include your address in Settings, enable this to show a button to get directions.
Tour Listing SettingsImage Layout If you have added featured images to your tours, choose how they appear. There are two options: Background Images and On Top. An example of each is included below.
Show Tour Type If enabled, show the type of tour (mobile guide, walking tour, etc.) in the listing.
Which tours do you want to show? This dropdown gives you three options: Show all tours, Show tours I select, and Group tours. Show All Tours This option, as the name suggests, shows all tours. If you would prefer to show visitors a subset of your tours, rather than all of them, you can select which ones appear on the home page. Show Tours I Select
To choose tours, click Link Existing Item. At the top right of the modal that opens click Collapse All. Click the checkboxes next to the tour titles you want to show, then click the blue Select button at the bottom right. You can then drag and drop the tours to rearrange them.
Group Tours This option lets you arrange tours into groups by subject, theme, or anything else you can imagine. Click the add group button to add a group. You can add a group heading, group description (optional), and select the tours for each group using the steps above.
You can also choose the layout style: stacked or side scroll. Stacked layouts show one card on top of the other, and visitors scroll up and down to view content. Side scroll displays cards next to each other, and visitors scroll horizontally to view content.

Save the Page At the top-right of the home page, click Save & Publish, or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + S (Win) / Cmd + S (Mac).
Settings TabAbout You Organization Name Description Brand Icon or Logo: square-dimensioned logos work best, like 1500 px x 1500 px. If your logo appears pixelated, it is most likely a very small image. You can get a vector image from your graphic designer.External Links Add links to your website, other websites, and social media profiles by clicking the + button, then selecting a Platform and Entering the URL for your profile.
The settings panel can be accessed by clicking on Settings in the top navigation.
App layoutUse this to change the arrangement of previous and next stop navigation, Home / Stops / Maps / QR / Settings menus. There are three options:
Menus on bottom and stops navigation on topThis is the default layout. App menus are on the bottom, and previous-next stop navigation buttons are on top. This layout intentionally slows visitors down so they focus on the present moment, rather than mindlessly moving from stop to stop.
Menus on top and stops navigation on bottomApp menus are on the top, and previous-next stop navigation buttons are on the bottom.
Menus and stops navigation stackedMenus are at the bottom with previous-next stop navigation buttons above them, and the audio player floating at the top of the screen.
Colors Here, select your brand color and other default colors for your Tourient site. You can upload a logo on the Home Page. Colors set here are the default colors for all tours and the home page. If you set a custom theme for a specific tour, that overrides the colors set here, but only for that tour. In that case, these colors will still apply to the home page and any tours that do not use a custom theme.
How to choose colorsYou can set these to any color of your choosing. Text color adjusts automatically to maintain a WCAG compliant contrast ratio. Click on the Pick Color square, then click on the long rectangle at the bottom to select a color. You can click on the color mode at the bottom of the menu to switch between RGB, HSL, and HEX modes, if needed. When finished, click OK. Click Save at the top of the page to save your changes.
Units Choose whether you'd like to use Miles or Kilometers for distance units. Tour Settings Each tour has its own settings, which you can learn more about in the Creating a Tour article.
Media stores images, audio, PDFs, and other files you have uploaded to your tours and tour stops. It is important to keep your media files organized in folders, and to name your files with a logical and cohesive naming convention. Files that are organized and well-named load faster, are easier to locate, and help to make your site more accessible. Some tips for keeping your files organized: Create a folder for each tour. Store images, pdfs, and other files for that tour in the folder. Establish logical naming conventions for your files, rather than having tens or hundreds of files named screenshot followed by a series of numbers. Future you will be thankful.
Files and folders can be moved to improve organization. Locate the file in the Media browser by searching for it in the search box at the top of the page, or navigating through your folders until you find the file. Click on it to open the image options dialog. Alternatively, click the three horizontal dots (...) to the right of a file or folder, then click Move in the context menu that appears. Click Move. In the dialog that appears, choose which folder you want to move the selected file or folder into. Then, click Move Asset.
ALT text, or alternative text, provides a text-based description of images for visitors who cannot see them. Captions provide context for the images to sighted and non-sighted visitors. To add ALT text and captions, follow these steps. From a Tour page In the page, locate the image file where you want to add ALT text or captions. Click on it. An image options dialog appears. On the right side of the dialog are three fields: ALT Text, Caption, and Credit. Enter your information in those fields, then click Save. If your organization as LLM tools enabled, you may see a three dots button at the top-right of the ALT text field. Click that, then click Generate ALT Text to analyze the image and create alt text from its contents.
From the Media listing You can also generate alt text in bulk from the media listing. In Media, first switch to List View. List View limits you to a maximum of 250 images per page, so you can generate alt text for up to 250 at a time. Because the media listing contains folders, we'll need to search for images by their file extension. Search for an image extension (.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .webp), and then click the Select All checkbox at the top left of the listing. In the toolbar actions that appear, click Generate Alt Text. A modal appears. Click Run action. The generation will be queued, and it will skip images that already have ALT text. A message may appear when it is complete. Repeat steps 3 to 5 for other images until all have ALT text. You can verify all images have alt text by clicking on Tools, then clicking on ReadyCheck, and scrolling to the ALT Text section.
Access your Media from the top navigation. Locate the file you want to rename by searching for it in the search box at the top of the page, or navigating through your folders until you find the file. Click on it. An image options dialog appears. Alternatively, click the three horizontal dots (...) to the right of the file, then click Rename. Enter a new name for the file, then click Rename Asset.
Access your Media from the top navigation. Click Create Folder to the right of the search box. Enter a name for the folder, then click Confirm.
Click on Media in the top navigation. Click the checkbox to select all files. Then, click Download. If you have a lot of files, this can take several seconds to several minutes to bundle the download.
Creating a User In the top navigation, click on your account name at the top right, then click on Users. A list of users appears. Click the blue Create User button at the top-right. Enter a name for the user. You can use just a first name, or first name and last name. Next, enter the user's email address. Then, optionally upload a profile photo for the user. They can also do this themselves at a later time from their Edit Profile link in the account menu. Click Next.Setting User Permissions There are two types of permissions for users: Editor and Admin. These are called Roles in the CMS. Editor: Can create and modify tours, tour stops, scavenger hunts, and media files. Cannot create, modify, or delete users. Cannot delete media files or tour stops. Admin: Can create, modify, and delete tours, tour stops, scavenger hunts, media files, and users. Deleting a User In the top navigation, click on your account name at the top right, then click on Users. A list of users appears. In the users listing, click on the three horizontal dots (…) to the right of the user you want to delete. A context menu appears. Click Delete in the context menu. A confirmation dialog appears. Click Delete to confirm.
You can log out from your Tourient account in two ways:Log out from the Tour Builder CMS In the top navigation, click on your name. A dropdown menu opens. Click on Log out at the bottom of the list of links.Log out from the public-facing site When you're logged in and browsing your public-facing site, a floating panel at the bottom right with quick actions is visible. Click on the Log Out button in the floating panel.
Add a new tour In the top navigation, click on Tours. On the top-right, click the blue Create Entry button. A dropdown menu appears. Click Create Tour. The tour creation page appears.
Tour Details tabIn the first tab (Tour Details), you'll immediately see a few fields: title, tour type, and default transit method.
TitleThis is the title of your tour, i.e. Downtown Walking Tour Tour TypeThere are two types of tours you can create: mobile guides and GPS-enabled tours. Mobile Guide: Each tour stop is a physical place within one gallery or building, that a visitor navigates to by looking for a keypad number or scanning a QR code. GPS-enabled: Each tour stop is a physical place outside of a gallery or building, that a visitor navigates to with the maps app on their phone. If you choose GPS-enabled, an additional option appears. Default Transit Method: This sets the default transit method (walking, biking, driving, or public transit) for calculating directions, and calculating the time it will take to reach the next stop. Visitors can change the transit method in their maps app. The tour's total distance and time to complete is calculated automatically based on the transit method selected.
Description and ImageLet's scroll down to the next section. The tour description is one to two sentences that explains what the tour is about. This description is used in search engine results and the start page (or listing page) of the tour. The image displays at the top of the tour's Start Page, and in the tour listing displayed on the Home Page. Browse for an existing image file in Media, or upload a new image.
Sponsors and Acknowledgements In this section, you can add up to 5 corporate sponsors or private donors to appear on the Tour start page. Acknowledgements bring attention to staff, volunteers, and others that contributed efforts.
How sponsors look on the appThe sponsors section will showcase their logo, which can be clicked to view the sponsor's website.
Adding a sponsorIn the Sponsors section, there's a dropdown to select a Sponsor Mode. Standard displays a single list of sponsors, whereas Tiers / Levels lets you create up to ten groups (like Platinum, Gold, and Bronze for example). The sponsor section is cached, so if you switch modes you'll need to use the Clear Cache button to see your changes. Link existing sponsors or create new ones for the tour. Choose whether to add sponsors to the route map. If so, set a color for their special map marker.
Click the + button to add a sponsor. Enter the sponsor's name, website, and add their logo. To hide a sponsor, click the green toggle at the top right.Adding acknowledgements Simply type into the acknowledgements field or copy/paste text.
Tour Notes This is an optional text field. It can be used to provide instructions, recommendations, warnings, or guidelines on the tour start page. Some examples of tour notes used by clients: Begin this tour at the east side of the museum. The first two stops are at this location, before heading north to the corner of Jefferson and Main St. We recommend visiting these sites during the day. Be aware of your surroundings and respectful of the sites you are visiting. The sites in this architectural tour are private homes. Please do not disturb the people living there. Intro audio Upload an audio file or browse for an existing one. Intro video Add a URL to a YouTube or Vimeo video.
Maps + Wayfinding Here, you can hide or show the route map for this tour, and create new sponsors or add existing sponsors to the route map. Wayfinding Method Choose how visitors access tour stops: by scanning a QR code, entering a keypad number, or simply proceeding from one stop to the next. You can still export QR codes and use them even if you don't select QR code as a method—selecting it here merely adds a built-in QR scanner to the app. Route Map If you selected GPS-enabled tour as the Tour Type, you'll see a toggle to Show Route Map. When enabled, you'll then see three more options: Route Map Style (outdoors, streets, or satellite), Add Sponsors to Route Map, and Sponsor Map Marker Color. You can learn more about Sponsors in the dedicated sponsors article. Building Map If you selected Mobile Guide as the Tour Type, you'll see a Building Map option in this tab, which you can use to add images and map points to those images.
Edit colorsYou can set the color for almost all components of the app interface. Text colors automatically adjust to maintain accessible contrast ratios.
Add custom fonts If your physical exhibit or tour experience uses custom fonts, you can bring those into your Tourient tour experience as well. To do so, follow these steps: Locate the TTF or WOFF2 font file Upload the file to the utility linked, and wait for it to convert to Base64 format. Copy the output of that tool and paste it into the Custom Fonts field Enter your custom font's Name. This name needs to exactly match the name of the font as shown in the Base64 output line font-family: "Custom Font Name"
Tour AccessHide tour: hides the tour from the home page and search engines when enabled. This can be used for secret tours or selling tour access. Gatekeep tour: Learn how to add access codes in this article
Tour start pageShow Star Ratings: If enabled, when visitors have rated your tour, show the average rating on the tour start page. Show Tour Stops: If enabled, show a list of all tour stops on the tour start page. Hide Tour Distance and Duration: If enabled, hides the distance and estimation duration of a tour, i.e., hiding the length of the tour when it depends on how many stops you visit.
During a tourHere, you can customize whether the bottom navigation menu uses the term Stops or Exhibits. You can also enable auto-play audio. For accessibility compliance, we recommend keeping auto-play audio disabled, but some immersive experiences may need it.
After Tour CompletionWhen a visitor completes a tour, what do you want to happen next? Visitors are asked to rate the tour, and here you can add a custom message, along with a button that links to any URL of your choosing. Some organizations invite visitors to become members, others link to an exit survey or mailing list.
PublishingLive preview: See your changes as you work in this mode. Drag the divider to adjust the preview screen size. Draft / published toggle: When set to Draft, the page is not visible, and can only be viewed or edited within the CMS. When set to publish, the page is visible on the front-end. Sites: Learn more about adding content in multiple languages in this article.
PageSlug: Editing the slug changes the tour URL. Changing the slug may break existing QR codes depending on your QR code configuration, but we do automatically redirect URLs when possible. Schedule tour: Set a date that this tour will appear. Tours are hidden before the date set.
Save the Tour At the top right of the page is a blue Save & Publish button. Click it to save the tour. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut to save: Ctrl + S (Win) or CMD + S (Mac). Next, we'll create a tour stop.
First, create a stopClick on Tours in the top navigation To add a stop to a particular tour, click the three dots (...) to the right of the tour, then click Tour Stop in the context menu that appears. The tour stop editing page appears.
Click the Live Preview button to see a preview of what you’re editing, while you edit it. Adjust the slider to adjust the preview screen size. This page is divided into four tabs: Tour Stop, Wayfinding, Audio, and Related Links. Let's go through each of themTab: Tour Stop
ParentIf you did not create this stop using the steps above (say if you duplicated the stop from another tour), you'd select Link Existing Item to select the tour this stop belongs to (its parent).
Title and ImageTitle: Title of the stop. Do not include the stop number in the title. Stop numbers are added automatically, and change if stops are re-ordered in the Tours listing in the CMS. Featured image: Displays at the top of the tour stop page. Add multiple images to create a gallery.
Templates A template makes creating specialized tours easier by letting you enter content once and reuse it across multiple stops. For example, you can add architect names and biographies and building styles for an architectural tour, and link those architects and styles to multiple stops.
Use a templateTo use a template, first select one of the available templates in the drop-down: Architecture, Art Gallery, or Aviation. New fields appear. For this example, we'll use the Architecture template. We then link an architect, style, enter a date, and enter a building address (if needed). Some templates include a Custom Fields option for unique attributes. To add a custom field, click Add Item. Then, enter the field data. Custom fields can be rearranged by clicking and dragging the handle on the left side of the field.
Template exampleData like biographies or style descriptions are shown as collapsed links. Tapping one displays the expanded content.
Blocks Blocks are what you use to create the bulk of tour stop content: text, single images and galleries, videos, and interactive elements like polls, quizzes, embeds, buttons, before/after comparisons, 3D models, collection objects, and a word guessing game. If adding text content blocks, there are additional special features like tooltips, which you can learn about in Creating a Tooltip.
Add a blockClick the + (plus) button, then search for a block by name or navigate to it by selecting a group. Then click on the type of block. To embed a YouTube video, you could type 'video' or click on Embeds, then click on Video. See a complete list of currently available block or content types. The block appears. The fields in each block are different depending on the type of content you're adding. In our video example, the block has fields for the Video URL and an optional Transcript.
Duplicate a blockClick the three dots (...) on the right side of the block, then click Duplicate Set. That's it.
Rearrange blocksClick the block's heading once, to collapse it (or use the collapse all button at the top right of the section). Then, click and drag the handle at the top-left of the block, and drop it where you want it to appear on the page. To add new blocks between existing ones, hover between them on the left-side of the block. A + (plus) button will appear. Click the + (plus) button to choose a new block.
Hide and delete blocksTo temporarily hide a block, click the toggle on the right side of the block. To delete a block, click the three horizontal dots (...) on the right side of the block, then click Delete.
Related links Below blocks is a section for related links. Here we add optional links to related resources or websites that a visitor can access for more information about this tour stop (or topics the stop discusses).
Add a related linkClick the + button to add a link. Enter an optional context for the link, the URL, a link title, and a link description. To rearrange the links, click the link block's heading once to collapse it. Then, click and drag the handle at the top-left of the link block, and drop it where you want it to appear. To temporarily hide a link, click the toggle on the right side of the link block. To delete a link, click the three dots (...) on the right side of the link block, then click Delete.
Tab: Wayfinding Help your visitors find their way.
1. Location coordinatesIf this is a tour stop on a GPS-enabled tour, here we enter a pair of latitude-longitude coordinates, that the visitor can navigate to using their maps app. Note: The first and last stops need to have coordinates, or the map will not work. The map and get directions buttons will skip any stops in between if they do not have lat-long coordinates. Learn how to retrieve lat-long coordinates.
2. Orienteering NoteBelow the latitude and longitude coordinate fields is Orienteering Note. As the help text states, this optional field can help guide your visitors to the correct place once they arrive.
3. Keypad NumberIf you are using keypad wayfinding rather than QR codes, there is a Keypad number field at the bottom of this tab. If you select keypad wayfinding and do not enter keypad numbers into your stops, that feature will not work.
Upload audioUpload an audio file for the stop's audio player. The field accepts MP3 and M4A files with a maximum file size of 10 MB. You can also create generated text to speech audio with our built-in tool.
Audio TranscriptEnter an existing audio transcript or generate one with our built-in tool by clicking the three dots to the right, then clicking Transcribe Audio. This can take several minutes. Text placed into this field will be accessible via a 'Show Transcript' button embedded in the audio player.
Link a sponsor to a stopIn blocks, click the + button, and search for Sponsors. Click it. Next, create a sponsor or link an existing sponsor to the stop. If you’ve toggled Use Offer Image, and a linked sponsor does not have an offer image, their logo will be shown. On the visitor facing app, this displays as the sponsor's logo or offer image wherever you place the block. Alternatively, you can add sponsors to the Tour page, or directly in the route map.
Rearrange tour stops and toursTo move a stop to a different tour, first unlink its existing parent, then link it to a new parent. Once assigned to the new parent, drag and drop to rearrange the order. Learn more about rearranging via drag and drop on the Understanding the CMS page.
Delete stops and toursLearn more about deleting stops and tours on the Understanding the CMS page.
Edit SEO settings in the right-hand sidebarSlug URL of the tour stop you're viewing. If you change the slug, the old URL will redirect to the new one, and existing Tourient-issued QR codes should continue working. QR codes created elsewhere may not. Meta description Used in search engine results to improve SEO, and may appear on the home page, depending on your settings.
Tourient supports translating your tours into multiple languages. The app's interface will translate into 73 languages. See which languages are available. Machine text translations are available on request in the Tools menu.
Add a site Before creating tours in multiple languages, we must first add a site in another language. To do this, contact your account manager. Requests are processed same-day during business hours. The same process applies to add sites for multiple offices or organizations, as there are backend infrastructure tasks we need to handle when adding sites.
There are two ways to create tours in multiple languages. The method that is right for you depends on what your goal is. If you want separate narratives for each language, where the tour is targeted to particular segments of your community, follow the steps in Method 1. If you want direct word-to-word translations of tour text, in multiple languages, follow the steps in Method 2.
Method 1: Duplicate a Tour In this method, we will duplicate a tour and its tour stops from one language site to another. Then, we'll replace its content in one language with content in another language. Let's say we have a tour in English, and we want to duplicate it for our Spanish site. In the top navigation, click on Tours. Click on the tour listing page for the tour you want to duplicate. On the right-hand side of the page, you'll see a Sites section. Click on Spanish in the sites listing and wait a few seconds for the page to duplicate itself in another language. Repeat for additional languages as needed. We've duplicated our tour listing page. Next, let's duplicate our tour stops. Return to Tours, and open each tour stop. Repeat step three by clicking on the language we want to duplicate this stop into in the Sites menu. Repeat for each tour stop. At the top-middle of the screen, you’ll see a dropdown menu that says English. Click that, then click the language in which you want to create a tour. In our example, we'll click on Spanish. We see the duplicated tour and tour stops. With our language switched to Spanish, we can now edit the content for the Spanish tour by replacing the English content with Spanish translations. Click Save & Publish to save the changes for each page, continuing until all tour stops have been translated. That's all there is to it!
Method 2: Create Separate Tours for Each Language In the top navigation, click on Tours. At the top-middle of the screen, you’ll see a dropdown menu that says English. Click that, then click the language in which you want to create a tour. Click the blue Create button at the top-right, then select Create a Tour in the dropdown menu. Edit the tour details per the instructions on this page, and save the tour. Return to the Tours listing, and click the three horizontal dots (…) to the right of the tour you just created. Click Add Child Entry to add a tour stop. Edit the tour stop details per the instructions on this page, and save the stop. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for however many stops your tour requires.Additional Settings Each language functions as its own site, with certain settings that will need to be edited for each language. Some site settings are translated for each language your tours are available in. These include: Refer to the Settings article for instructions on editing those. Home Page also has unique components for each language.
The site or language switcher appears on the home page or tour start page, letting the user select their preferred language. Otherwise, the language is assumed based on the URL viewed. QR codes can be generated separately for each language.
What is a tooltip?A tooltip is a small, informative text box that appears when a visitor hovers their mouse or taps on a special link. It's used to provide additional information or context about a word or phrase without cluttering the main paragraphs.
How to create a tooltipSelect the place in a Text Content field where you want to add a tooltip. This may be a word or phrase. In the toolbar, click the Add Pin button at the far right side. Then, click Tooltip. A tooltip icon will appear where the word used to be. Click it to open the tooltip editor. Here, enter the word or phrase in the Word to Display field. Next, enter the tooltip text in the Tooltip Text field. Click outside of the editor.
Creating Sponsors There are two ways to create sponsors: in the Sponsors page or from within a tour or tour stop. Here's how to create them in the Sponsors page.
Login to the CMS Click on Sponsors Click Create Entry at the top right Add a Sponsor Name (such as a private donor's name or business name) If they have a website, you can add it in the Website field. If they have a logo, browse for an existing file or upload a new one. When finished, click Save (or use the keyboard shortcut CTRL / CMD + S) Now that we've created a sponsor, let's link it to a tour.
Sponsor Offers and CouponsIf the sponsor is a physical business offering coupons or deals to visitors, add the longitude and latitude points for their location. Learn how to retrieve these points in this article. You can then use the sponsor's location in a tour's route map. Choose an icon, add a description for their offer, and upload an image with the offer (like a coupon or QR code)
Link a Sponsor to a Tour Learn how to do link a sponsor to a tour in the Creating a Tour article.
Link a Sponsor to a Tour Stop In tour stops, sponsors are listed by name only below the stop title. Learn how to link a sponsor to a tour stop in the Creating a Tour Stop article.
First, decide whether it makes more sense to have a single building map for all of your tours, or a separate building map for each tour. Note: Each language will have its own building map. If you create one in English, you will need to edit the labels for other languages, and update the entry link to the appropriate tours or stops in that language.Add a map To add a universal or single building map, click on Settings. To add a building map to a specific tour, click on Tours at the top, then click on the tour title. Then, click on the Building Map tab. Click Add Floor. Enter a name for the floor. Browse for an existing floor plan image or upload a new one. Wait a few seconds for the image to save and automatically refresh the page so you can see it. Next, we'll add pins to the map.
Add map pins You can zoom into the image with the plus and minus buttons, or reset the zoom level with the zoom to fit button
To add a pin, click the Add Pin button. Next, hover over the image with your mouse. You will see an Add Pin icon. Click on the image where you want to add the pin.
A pin editing panel will appear on the right side of the screen. Enter a name or label for the pin. If needed, add a link to a tour, tour stop, or external URL. Click Add. The pin is added to the map. Click Save at the top right to save your changes, or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl / Cmd + S
Repeat steps 1 to 7 for other pins. Remember to save your changes when finished. To delete a pin, click on the pin in the list, then click the X at the top right of the card.
What are access codes? Access codes are like passwords. They are a series of letters, numbers, and/or special characters that allow access to online content, like your Tourient tours. Once a code is successfully entered, it will not need to be entered again. How to add tour access codes in Tourient Open the tour page that you want to add gatekeeping to In the sidebar on the right side, look for Tour Access. You may see a Hide Tour toggle. This will hide the tour from search engines and the home page. It can be enabled together with Gatekeeping, or separately. Click the toggle to Gatekeep Tour. Two sub-items appear: access codes and access code help text Next, add your access codes.
How to share access codes Access codes can be shared via emails, text messages (with consent), or onsite signage or receipts. They can be used to facilitate selling tours via any point of sale (POS) system your organization already uses.
How to use access codes in Tourient With gatekeeping enabled, open the tour page. You'll see a form asking for an access code. Enter the code. If it's correct, you'll see the tour. If it's incorrect, a gentle error message appears.
Importing Tour Content with CSV Migrate tour content into Tourient using CSV files and the Importer tool. It's platform-agnostic: if your content can be exported into the column format below, it can be imported — from STQRY, CultureConnect, a spreadsheet, or anywhere else. You'll import three files, in this order: sponsors.csv — your sponsors tours.csv — each tour (the start page) stops.csv — each stop within a tour Order matters because tours reference sponsors, and stops reference their parent tour. If you import stops before their tours exist, the links won't resolve and you'll have to fix them by hand. Download all three CSV templates.Preparing Test with a few rows first. Import one tour and its stops, confirm they look right, then run the full set. The templates list the essential fields, but you only need fill in what your source has. Blank columns are skipped. Keep titles stable. The import matches entries by Title, so a title that changes between runs is treated as a new entry and creates a duplicate. Settle titles before importing, and change them in the CMS afterward rather than in the CSV. (The slug column still matters for linking stops to tours — see below.)About slugs A slug is the short, URL-friendly name that identifies a tour or stop — lowercase, words joined by hyphens, no spaces or punctuation. It's the part of the web address after your domain. Sunnyside Cat Walk → sunnyside-cat-walk → yoursite.tourient.app/sunnyside-cat-walk. Slugs matter for the import for two reasons: They must be unique. No two tours can share a slug; no two stops within the same tour can either. They link entries together. A stop names its tour's slug in its parent column; a tour names its sponsors' slugs in its sponsors column. The slug in one row must exactly match the slug in the row it points to.The import process You'll run this same process three times, once for sponsors, once for tours, once for stops. Each run has two parts: create the import, then map the fields.Step 1 — Create the import Log in to the CMS. Go to Tools → Import Data (or visit /cms/utilities/importer). Enter a name, e.g. Migration from STQRY. Upload the CSV file. Set Data type to Entries. Choose the destination collection: sponsors.csv → sponsors tours.csv → tours stops.csv → tours Choose the Blueprint (see the reference table below). Choose the site / language to import into. Under Import Strategy, select Create New Items (unless you're bulk-updating a specific field). Click Save and continue.Step 2 — Map the columns Next, you'll see a Configuration section. Here, every available field in either a tour or stop appears, and you can map the columns from your CSV to those fields. You may notice fields that aren't in the CSV template. If you have data for those, you can add them, or add them later. Most columns map straight across. Some need extra settings (below). When finished, click Save & Run, and the migrated tours will appear in the Tours listing. Blueprint & template — fill with the same value on every row: File blueprint template tours.csv tour_listing @blueprint stops.csv show @blueprint sponsors.csv sponsor Leave blank Link columns (parent, sponsors) — point to other entries. You put a slug in the cell, and the importer finds the entry with that slug and links it. Set Related Field to slug. Leave Create when missing? off so broken links show as errors instead of empty entries. Column Points to Put in the cell parent (stops) the stop's tour the tour's slug sponsors (tours) sponsors sponsor slugs, pipe-separated Example — a stop that belongs to the Sunnyside Cat Walk tour has this in its parent cell:sunnyside-cat-walk Example — a tour sponsored by both Acme Co. and the City Museum has this in its sponsors cell, pipe-separated:acme-co|city-museum Each slug must exactly match the slug of a row you already imported (a tour row for parent, sponsor rows for sponsors). Asset columns (featured_images, featured_image, audio_file, logo, offer_image) — images and files. You put the file's full URL in the cell, and the importer downloads it for you. Related Field: URL Base URL: the common root your file URLs share, so the importer can tell new files from ones already imported Download when missing?: on (fetches each file into the asset container) Folder: where downloaded files land (defaults to mirroring the URL path) Example — a stop with three photos has this in its featured_images cell, pipe-separated:https://cdn.mysite.com/stops/town-hall-01.jpg|https://cdn.mysite.com/stops/town-hall-02.jpg|https://cdn.mysite.com/stops/town-hall-03.jpg For those URLs, the Base URL would be the shared root:https://cdn.mysite.com/stops/ Example — a stop's audio file has this in its audio_file cell (one file, so no pipe):https://cdn.mysite.com/audio/town-hall.mp3 Accepted values for Tours Several tour columns only accept specific values. Put the value on the left in the CSV cell, not the label. . tour_type Value Meaning mobile-guide Mobile Guide walking-tour GPS Enabled tour_method — the default transit method (only applies to GPS tours) Value Meaning walking Walking driving Driving cycling Biking transit Transit wayfinding_method Value Meaning qr-code QR Code keypad Keypad none NoneUnique Field Use Title as the Unique Field. For this to work, tour and stop titles must be unique — no two tours sharing a title, and no two stops within the same tour. Matching on Title is what makes re-running safe: fix a few rows, run again, and it updates those entries instead of creating duplicates. If you edit a title between runs, the importer sees a new entry and creates a duplicate — so settle titles before importing.Step 4 — Run it Run the import. Check the results before moving to the next file.A note on body text The imported_content column holds a stop’s text content. On import it goes into a single Imported Content field below the blocks area. It's imported as-is, so you can reformat, split it into more blocks, or add media blocks afterward.Languages Import one language only — your primary language. Once the content is in, use Tourient’s translation tools to add other languages. There’s no need to prepare translated CSVs or run the import more than once.Limitations Captions and credits aren't imported. featured_images brings in the files and possibly alt text; per-image captions or credit lines must be added by hand afterward. Repeating / structured fields can't come through CSV — sponsor tiers, related links, tour groups, and richer blocks (quizzes, embeds, galleries with settings). CSV covers the core content; the rest is set up in the CMS afterward. Large image sets are slow. Hundreds of images and dozens of audio files take a while. Audio must be MP3 or M4A, up to 10 MB per file. Some fields generate automatically and don't need importing (stop counts, tour distance/duration).Tips Pipe ( | ) separates multiple values in any cell (images, multiple sponsors). Leave a field blank to skip it — the importer won't overwrite an existing value with an empty cell unless configured to. Re-running with the same title updates existing entries instead of duplicating them.
When your tour is complete, it's time to request text translations. To do so, follow these steps. In the top navigation, click on Tools Look for an option titled Request Text Translations Click Submit Request The translation request will run in the background. Machine translations are context-aware, and take several minutes to complete per stop, per language. A client with a tour that has 14 stops in 5 languages can take up to 3 hours to finish translating. When the process is complete, the tour content will be updated in your other languages. We always recommend proofreading, as automatic text translation may translate things like proper nouns that aren’t meant to be translated. Once your text is translated, then translate your audio following the steps here.
Log in to Tourient In the top navigation menu, you'll see Tours. Click on the tour stop you want to create a transcript for, and then click on the Audio tab. Make sure you have first uploaded an audio file, then clicked Save. Once a file has been uploaded, click the three dots to the right of the Audio Transcript field, and click Transcribe Audio. The audio will begin transcribing. This can take several minutes depending on the length of the audio. Once transcribed, the transcript will be added to the field as one giant paragraph. Split this paragraph up with line breaks per your discretion, then click Save & Publish at the top right of the page.
The text to speech tool turns the written text on your tour stops into spoken narration and attaches the audio file to each stop. You choose a language, a tour, which stops you want audio for, and a narrator, then it does the rest while you do something else. What you'll need Tour stops with audio transcripts. The text to speech generator needs text to generate from, and it looks for this text in the Audio Transcript field (found in the Audio tab). Stops without transcripts appear greyed out, and include an Edit link so you can add the text.
1. Access the tool There are three ways to access the TTS tool: Click on Tools in the top navigation, then click on Text to Speech. Click on any tour stop, then click on the Audio tab, and then click the link to the built-in TTS tool. Visit /cms/tts.2. Select a site The site is the language. Pick the language you're generating audio for. Once you've translated your text, you can then use the Text to Speech tool to transform your translated text into translated audio, using the same steps below. The voices can speak all of our supported languages, so your tours sound consistent across the whole app.3. Select a tour Choose a tour from the dropdown. Its stops appear in a list, with the ones thathave usable text already selected. You can: Tick and untick individual stops Use the checkbox in the list header to select or clear all of them Click any stop to read the transcript that will be read aloud. Click Hide Transcript toclose it again. Below the list you'll see a summary: how many stops will be generated, andwarnings about anything that needs your attention.
The Voice Settings panel shows the narrator for this tour. If the tour has been generated before, it remembers the voice you used last time. Different tours can have different narrators. If no voice has been set yet, the panel opens with the voice list so you can choose one. You can search by voice name, accent (like 'midwest'), gender, or attributes like 'narrative'. Click the play button next to any voice to hear a sample. Once you find a voice you like, click on the voice to select it. You can also adjust voice speed, which changes how quickly the narrator reads. Lower is slower and clearer: 0.95 is a good default for most narration. When you're ready, click Done to save your voice selection.
In the audio file output section, you’ll see how many stops will be generated, how many credits it will cost, how many credits your plan has remaining this month, and how much money (roughly) this saves you compared to hiring a voice actor. Click the blue Generate Text to Speech button. Each stop in the list shows its progress as it goes: Queued, then Generating, then Saved. Note: It can take 2 to 5 minutes per stop to generate the audio. When it's done, the form unlocks by itself and the list refreshes. The stops you just generated now show a green Has Audio label, and the audio file for each one is saved directly to the stop. The files are saved into Media, in the audio folder. You can move them into tour-specific folders later, if you prefer.6. Testing Open a tour stop you've generated audio for. You'll see the audio file is attached. Click Visit URL to open the stop page. Click play to listen to the audio.
Log in to the CMS Open a tour or stop If on a tour, you'll see a Description field below Title. If on a stop, you'll see Meta Description in the sidebar on the right. In either case, click the three vertical dots to the right of the field, then click Generate Description. Wait a few seconds, and a description will be generated from the text blocks in your stop. If there are no text blocks, an error message will be shown. Review the generated description and edit as needed to suit your brand voice.
Read this tutorial Click on Tools in the top menu, then click on Create QR Codes in the list. Or, visit the URL directly at /cms/qr Select a language Next, Select a Tour in that language. You'll see a live preview of an example QR code from that tour. Choose an image format, and click the Download button for that format. PNGs are 1500px x 1500px and best suited for web or email sharing, or printing at a small size. SVGs are a vector file that can be infinitely scaled and printed at any size. The QR code images will generate and bundle into a ZIP file, which takes 10 to 90 seconds depending on how many stops you have. When it’s ready, it’ll either download to your Downloads folder or ask you where to save the file. Unzip the file and share your QR codes.
Click on Tools in the top menu bar, and then click on Create Marketing in the list.
Create Social Posts

When you’re logged-in to the Tourient Tour Builder CMS, a special admin toolbar will appear in the bottom-right of every page on the public-facing site. This is the Action Menu. The Action Menu includes links to actions you can take on the page you’re viewing. Available Actions Stop Tracking Me / Start Tracking Me This action is a toggle button to prevent or allow the analytics to track you. If the button says You are being tracked, you are currently being tracked by the analytics. If the button says Start Tracking Me, you are not being tracked. It is best practice to prevent the analytics from tracking what editors and admin staff are doing on the site. This helps to maintain accuracy in your analytics reports. Marketing This opens the Generate Marketing tool to create QR codes, social posts, and wall placards. Analytics This opens your analytics dashboard. Edit This If you see a change that needs to be made on a page, click the Edit This action to be taken directly to that page in the CMS. This link will open in a new tab. Log out This will sign you out of your CMS account.
Export Data from Tourient In the top navigation, click on Tools, then click Export Data in the dropdown menu. Choose which collections or groups of content you want to export. Options include: Pages, Tours, and Sponsors. Select a file format for export: XLSX: Detailed data analysis and reporting in Excel. CSV: Data import/export with other systems. TSV: A tab-separated format, as an alternative to CSV. ODS: For users of OpenDocument spreadsheet applications. XLS: Compatible with older versions of Excel. HTML: Web-friendly format, easily convertible to PDF with online tools. Next, select which fields to exclude from the export, if any. By default all fields will be exported. Then, specify whether you'd like to include field headers in the first row of the file. Headers are included by default.Export your media folder In the top navigation, click on Media. Select all of your folders and files with the select all checkbox, and click Move. Create a new folder to move them to. Then, click the three horizontal dots (...) to the right of the new folder, and click Download. If you have a lot of media, this may take a while.
Tourient currently supports 73 languages. If you need a language not listed, reach out at support@tourient.app, and we'll get it added. The app interface will automatically translate into the following languages.
Using Google Maps, you can easily find the latitude and longitude coordinates for any address or location. How to Find Coordinates for an Address
To find the coordinates for a specific address, follow these steps. Start by opening Google Maps. In the search bar at the top left, type in the address or location you're looking for. Once the map loads, you'll see a red pin on the map, indicating the location. Right-click this pin (or any other point on the map), and you'll see the latitude and longitude coordinates displayed at the top of the context menu. These coordinates represent the exact location of that address on the map. Click on the coordinates to copy them to your clipboard.Using the Coordinates The first coordinate is latitude, which measures the distance north or south from the equator. The second coordinate is longitude, which measures the distance east or west from the prime meridian. Once you have these values, you can copy and paste them into Tourient. Note: The first and last stops need to have coordinates, or the map will not work. The map and get directions buttons will skip any stops in between if they do not have lat-long coordinates.
Offline mode is opt-in for your visitors. Note: Analytics data will only sync up if the user reconnects to WiFi or cellular data while still viewing your Tourient tour. Not all features work in offline mode. Open Settings menu Scroll down to Offline Mode section Tap or click Download Files. A progress bar appears. Wait for files to download Close settings menu Go offline Browse stops, play audio, view images, etc.
Offline Mode Limitations Polls and other interactive components will not fetch remote data when offline, but they will record user input. This input data may not sync with the analytics platform if a user disconnects from the site before their data connection is restored. Some images are dynamically sized, with variable heights and widths depending on the content of the image. Because we don’t know their specific dimensions in advance, we can’t generate a static version that can be downloaded and used in offline mode, so dynamic images will not work. Examples of dynamic images: Full-size image is enabled in settings Building map floor plan images The expanded version of some gallery images
Change a domain Submit a request to change your domain name via email to your account manager They'll create a ticket and get started on the process. Your site will go offline temporarily during the domain change, which can take anywhere from 2 hrs to 1 business day. You'll receive an email when it is complete, with updated site links, CMS links, and other information.Use a custom domain You can use your own subdomain or domain with Tourient by creating DNS records and pointing them to your Tourient server. Create a subdomain (like tours.yourwebsite.com) wherever your domain is registered. Steps for this process vary by registrar or hosting company. Create two A records, and point each to your Tourient server IP address. You can find this IP address in the Settings menu, in the Custom Domain section. www.yoursubdomain.yourdomain.TLD yoursubdomain.yourdomain.TLD Contact your account manager to let us know you'd like to use your own domain, and we'll link it to your site.
First, switch to List View
Locate the tour by clicking Blueprint in the filters at the top-left, then choosing Tour in the options. A list of tours appears.
Click the three dots to the right of the tour you want to duplicate, then click Duplicate Tour and Stops.
A confirmation modal appears. Click Run Action to continue.
After several minutes, the action is completed. Switch back to Tree view to see the duplicated tour and stops.
Note: Duplicated tours are set to draft mode, so that you can make changes as needed, and then publish when you're ready. One change we'd recommend making is updating the slugs for the tour and its stops. A slug is what determines the URL of the tour page or stop page (my-duplicated-tour). When a tour is duplicated, "copy" is added to the end of the slug for each duplicated page. To edit a slug, scroll down in the sidebar on the right-hand side until you see a field titled Slug. Change the tour slug to the new tour's title, and then change the stop slugs as needed. To publish the new tour, you have two options. Set the status to Published in each stop, as you edit them. Set the status in bulk: switch from Tree View to List View, choose Status in the filters, and select Draft. This will show tours and stops set to Draft Mode. Next, click the select all checkbox (at the top left of the listing view next to Status), and click Publish in the toolbar buttons that appear.
Enlarged versions of images maintain the dimensions that you upload. Cropped images use ratios rather than specific pixel dimensions. These ratios are used to generate images in multiple dimensions for various screen sizes. Below are recommended minimum dimensions for various image ratios.Home page Brand Icon: cropped square Featured Image: 1600 x 1200 (4:3 ratio)Tour start pages Featured image: 1600 x 1200 (4:3 ratio)Tour stops Featured image: 1600 x 1200 (4:3 ratio) (larger sizes at that ratio recommended) Single image: minimum width of 900, height variable Image gallery: Cropped ratio is selectable Landscape 16:9 - 1920 x 1080 Landscape 4:3 - 1600 x 1200 Square Portrait 2:3 - 1200 x 1800 Portrait 4:5 - 1200 x 1500 Before and after images: Cropped ratio is selectable Landscape 16:9 - 1920 x 1080 Landscape 4:3 - 1600 x 1200 Square 3D model placeholder poster: 1200 x 1800 (2:3)Sponsors Logo In sponsors block: no specific dimensions, looks best when all logos are cropped as squares or rectangles Paired with route map offer image: Cropped square (400 x 400 minimum) Offer image: In route map: Cropped square (800 x 800 minimum) In sponsor block: no specific dimensions
Tip: select a focal point for images In asset settings, you can choose the focal point of cropped images. To do this: Click on an image in the CMS Look for the Focal Point button, and click that. A modal appears with a dot and many examples of how an image with that focal point may be cropped. Click around the modal to move the dot or focal point. As you do, the example cropped images adjust to accommodate that change. When you arrive at one you like, click Finish, then save your changes to the image.
How can I export tours and stops to PDF? Like any website, the most straightforward option is to print to PDF. Steps for this vary across devices, but generally using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+P on Windows or CMD + P on Mac will open the print dialog. Note that print styling presents a simplified view appropriate for paper. Links are fully written out, captions and ALT text are written out, and basic system fonts are used to maintain readability, like Source Sans or Arial or Verdana or Times New Roman.
Log in to the Tour Builder CMS. In the top navigation, click on your name. A dropdown menu opens. Click on Edit Profile. In the Account Details section of your profile, edit your email address. Click Save at the top right.

Let's say you noticed a misspelling on one of your tour stops, and logged into Tourient to change it. You saved your changes, refreshed the app, but the incorrectly spelled word is still there. Tourient uses caching (temporary storage of files) to make the app speedier. The downside of caching is that when you make changes, the cached version isn't always replaced immediately. But there's an easy fix: clear the cache. How to Clear the Cache in Tourient In the top navigation, click on the Tools menu, then click Clear Cache button (has a trash can icon). Wait a few seconds. A success message will appear in the bottom left.
I’ve set show all tours on the home page, but some of my tours aren’t showing. This can happen sometimes. One thing to check: Does the tour have the Hide Tour toggle set to true? If so, that tour won’t appear on the home page, because the Hide Tour setting overrides the Show All Tours option. And if you're on the Starter Plan, only the first two tours in the list will show.
